Yngve Holen

Les sculptures d’Yngve Holen interrogent les systèmes technologiques qui façonnent nos existences contemporaines. En recourant à des pièces issues de l’industrie — qu’il s’agisse de véhicules, de dispositifs de communication, de déchets ou de produits alimentaires — l'artiste compose des œuvres où le corps humain, pourtant central, est constamment suggéré par son absence. Les ruines d’un idéal moderne affleurent : vivre plus longtemps, aller plus vite, penser plus fort — autant d’élans traduits dans la matérialité même de ses assemblages. Résultant de confrontations internes, son travail souligne les contradictions d’un monde en crise, où les identités vacillent et les repères moraux s’effritent. Mêlant procédés industriels traditionnels et technologies de pointe, ses œuvres brouillent la logique fonctionnelle de ces dispositifs, les transformant en ornements ou en vestiges étrangement familiers d’un futur déjà obsolète, souvent teintés d’un humour froid et déroutant.

Yngve Holen est né 1982 à Brunswick, Allemagne. Il vit et travaille entre Oslo et Berlin. Il a d’abord étudié l’architecture à l’Université des Arts appliquées de Vienne puis la sculpture à la Städelschule de Francfort-sur-le-main. Son travail a fait l’objet d’expositions personnelles à la Galerie Nordenhake, Mexique (2025); Galerie Neu, Berlin (2023); Spazio Maiocchi, Milan (2022); X Museum, Pékin (2021); Modern Art, Londres (2019); Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2019); Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (2018); Converso, Milan (2018); et à la Kunsthalle Basel (2016). Il a participé à des expositions collectives chez Modern Art, Londres (2024); Bundekunsthalle, Bonn (2022); Gropius Bau, Berlin (2020); Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2020); Kunstmuseum St. Gallen (2020); Kistefos, Oslo (2019); et au mumok, Vienne (2018); parmi d’autres. Holen a reçu plusieurs prix notamment le Overbeck Prize (2020); the Robert Jacobsen Prize (2017); et l’ars viva (2014/15). Ses œuvres sont conservées dans les collections de la Aïshti Foundation, Lebanon; The National Museum of Art, Oslo; Lafayette Anticipations, Paris; Museo Jumex, Mexico City; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; et la Sammlung Boros, Berlin.
